Watchung Lake is the larger of the two Watchung Lakes.
Today it has a lovely walking path.
When the lake was dredged, the children would become treasure hunters for the coins and other goodies that had dropped t the bottom the prior years.

Best Lake
Best Lake is the smaller of the two Watchung Lakes. It was originally called Burnhead Lake. It was owned by George. Demler who also owned the Washington House. It was used for Ice Harvesting, as you can see from the postcard which was dated 1909.
It was sold to a a Mr Wilson, who then sold it to Mr. Best. Best did not know the name of the lake and thus when asked he simply called it Best Lake.
When winters were colder, after the ice harvesting business stopped, it was a wonderful skating pond.
Today it has a lovely walking path.
